I own cable and I want to be able to survey it on my laptop, however, my T.V. is an older one and I can't hook it up directly to my laptop. Is here any sort of module or whatever that can connect my cable to my computer?

You involve an analogue TV card (one that takes terrestial tv) or a video seizure card in your laptop - you can draw from USB ones, you plug cable into that
You can get USB or PCMCIA TV tuner cards.
